Silent Hill: Downpour is a embarrasment to the franchise. Find out why in our review!
The only thing more boring than the story of Silent Hill: Downpour is the gameplay. The story follows prisoner Murphy Pendleton as his prison transport is derailed in the town of Silent Hill. Through the decisions and choices you make in the game, you determine the fate of Murphy and if he truly committed the crime that he is accused of. While this story sounds familiar, and it is, it is just as boringly executed as the gameplay is. The combat, if you can call it that, is like wading through sewage attempting to reach a goal. None of the monsters in the game are a challenge and the puzzles are beyond simple. Simply explore the area and you can find the answer to any of the game’s riddles. The true mystery of this game is how to find a way to force yourself to stay awake and engaged in order to complete it. But in all truth, the game is so simple, you can complete it in your sleep.

The creatures in the game never seem to reach the point of fear.
Silent Hill: Downpour is an utter embarrassment to the survival horror genre and the Silent Hill franchise itself. The most frustrating thing about the game is that is shows flashes of imaginative brilliance but even those flashes are extinguished by the boring gameplay and story. If this is any indication of the future of the franchise, then this should be our last trip to Silent Hill.
