There are normally many signs that a franchise has become stale. Lagging sales, low critic reviews, and the lack of new ideas are the signal that a franchise may have lost its steam. Silent Hill has become that franchise and it does nothing to better its position with the release of Silent Hill: Downpour. From games to movies, Silent Hill has evolved from the standard for the survival horror to a embarrassment to all facets of the horror genre. How does Silent Hill: Downpour further ruin the reputation of Silent Hill? Find out in our review!

While the environments are creepy, the monsters are not.

The presentation of Silent Hill: Downpour is a hard thing to judge as it varies from stale to inventive. With this being the eighth game in the series, we are all aware of the existence of Otherworld, the physics-bending universe that often takes the shape of the fictional town of Silent Hill. When in Silent Hill the game seems stale and uninventive with unusual flashes of what could have been brilliance. The town of  Silent Hill his beautiful in a haunting way. The use of light and shadows are at times impressive, but never remain consitent throughout. The town of Silent Hill is boring and merely serves as the setting to advance the story. While in Silent Hill players will find themselves begging for a shift to Otherworld just for a change in scenery. The monsters and creatures in the game have also grown old and show signs of an imagination gone stagnant. Nothing in the game is truly terryifying as they all appear to be ideas that were left on the cutting room floor of the original game.
