Rise of the Gaurdians destroys the light of belief and ushers in the darkness of despair. Find out how in our review!
Playing Rise of the Guardians is like reliving a never-ending nightmare for eternity. This top down action adventure forces you to constantly fight seemingly never ending waves of nightmarish creatures sent to destroy you by Pitch Black. The difficulty level of gameplay is below easy and beyond repetitive. It’s like the game tried to make up for the lack of challenge by throwing waves of enemies at you. There are also some creatures that can only be defeated by using certain power ups, but the game never lets you know that. Switching between characters is easy and each character has their own special skills but none of them seem exceptionally unique or definitive of the legend they are portraying. Even for a children’s title, the game seems to come with a dunce cap, asking the children to lower their level of intelligence just to enjoy the game.
Bringing these legends together was a disappointment.
Rise of the Guardians: The Video Game is a typical movie tie in that does not deliver. From basic graphics to frustrating gameplay, the game is a disappointment on all fronts. The only positive is the beautifully animated cut scenes. If the disc had come loaded with nothing but those, it would have been a minor success. Instead Rise of the Guardians is a critical level disappointment that will quickly dispel the belief any child has in the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and Santa. It will however prove that the Sandman is real, because it is so boring it will put you to sleep.
