It may not be a puzzle game for everyone, but it certainly lights the Wii U eShop aflame with genius.
It's not for everyone, as the gameplay doesn't change much over the course of the game, and that lack of competitive edge will leave some of you wondering just what the point of it is. But its originality, not to mention compelling story (mostly surrounding the kids and the strange characters), really stand out here, and go a long way into validating this "hot" little title.
The presentation does wonders, too. The interactivity of the flames is sharp, as you'd find in a real fireplace, and some of the comical effects that the items have are worth checking out. The backgrounds don't change much, but, then again, they don't really need to, as the fireplace needs to remain the focused point here. The sound is incredible, with a moody soundtrack that fits right in with the game, along with quality sound effects. World of Goo fans will definitely be comforted here.
We know that other great efforts like Nano Assault Neo and Trine 2: Director's Cut are available – and far more accessible than this game – but Little Inferno is still a quirky delight, and a great game that takes advantage of the Wii U in all the right ways, even if you're not asked to do that much. Light a fire and enjoy yourselves.
