A new contender enters the melee genre with Playstation All Stars Battle Royal, but does it put up a fight?

The single player campaign for Playstation All Stars Battle Royale is another let down for the game. While it is awesome that the developers took the time to create stories for each character to explain their motivations, the stories are not executed well. The stories are told through animated slides that feel empty and hollow in this era of gaming. The character motivations are also cold and meaningless and honestly nothing you have not seen before. Besides the end boss, which has already been revealed, there are no surprises and is upsetting for a company that has such a rich gaming history.

Create the ultimate match up with legendary characters.

Playstation All Stars Battle Royale is a flawed but fun game.  A problematic camera viewpoint, lack of story, and familiar gameplay are areas that keep the game from being a knockout punch. The combination of classic characters and environments are fun and add some replayability to the game. The servers seemed stable at the time of this review with short wait times and no noticeable lag. The game also comes with cross play meaning you will get a free digital copy of the game for the Playstation Vita. Even with a legendary cast of characters, interactive environments, and suitable gameplay, it is hard to recommend this to anyone else but the hardcore Playstation fan.

Score: 7 / 10
