Does the adventure puzzler The Testament of Sherlock Holmes succeed? Well, it's simply elementary...
The use of lighting and shadows is impressive.
The visuals of The Testament of Sherlock Holmes vary in degree. At times I was impressed by the use of light and reflections in the game. Since you are mostly in one setting searching for clues, the designers had time to really pay attention to the little details. The visuals begin to disappoint when the characters begin to speak. Their lips never match up to their words, and with a game as dialogue heavy as this, the lack of polish on this area immediately takes you out of the moment which is beyond disappointing.
The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is a good game, but one that is hard to recommend. If you are a fan of the original novels, I deduce that you will enjoy this interesting and original take on the character. If you are searching a action heavy adventure, similar to the films, this is not it. This is a game for those that like to take time to solve puzzles and deduce clues. I found The Testament of Sherlock Holmes surprisingly enjoyable and I hope that this becomes a franchise alternative to the action heavy shooters of today.
