Online features look to be key in Mario Golf: World Tour.
It looks like that Nintendo might finally be getting this whole “online “thing. Let’s take a look at Mario Golf: World Tour as an example as how Nintendo is getting the hang of online play. Mario Golf will have online tournaments that will take place with people around you (regionally) as well as with people internationally. It will also have tournaments that are created by players. The online tournaments will be as easy as checking their Spotpass notifications and see how the tournament will be played. They can upload their score and see how it compares to other players. You can check the scores through Mario Golf Mode or check it through the Castle Club machines.
Nintendo is also collaborating with Callaway Golf (a global golf gear manufacturer) to host its own series of special in-game tournaments that will begin on May 22. Players who play in these tournaments will receive in-game Callaway items like different clubs that will enhance your Mii characters capabilities. Winners are determined by score and will receive in-game coins to spend in Toad’s shop. Nintendo will also be allowing players to create public/private communities to play online, such as specific characters only. A demo of the game will be available on the 3DS eShop on April 24th so give the game a test run and see if it’s right for you.
