Sony President Jack Tretton passed on receiving a PS4 console so that a customer could buy it.

During the latest episode of the official PlayStation Blogcast, President of Sony Computer Entertainment America Jack Tretton revealed that he declined the opportunity to receive his own PlayStation 4 console so that someone else could purchase it.

When one of the show’s hosts talked about the PS4’s success, Tretton jokingly remarked that he himself didn’t even have one and, when pressed for details as to why that was, he explained how he’d rather see the console in the hands of a loyal customer:

"It breaks my heart if somebody's got $400 in hand and they want a PS4 but we can't sell them one….to that point, I don't have one yet because I'm like 'No, sell it’.”

Tretton also dispersed rumors that Sony wanted to purposefully ensure a lack of PS4 availability during the holidays (meaning desperate buyers would be willing to pay more) by saying that the company had worked hard to "manufacture every unit we could get our hands on." He also confirmed that a new wave of PS4 consoles are expected to be available before the end of the holiday season and yet another batch is set to hit retailers between January and March, 2014.

The PlayStation 4 was officially launched in North America exactly one month ago from yesterday, November 15. Since that time, the console has already sold roughly 2.1 million units worldwide.
