Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be available as a next-gen retail release next year.
Information on Hideo Kojima’s upcoming two-part project Metal Gear Solid V has been slowly surfacing over the past few months. Some fans were dismayed when it was reported that the next-gen version of part one, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, would be available as a digital download only. However, thanks to a recent update from publisher Konami, it looks like next-gen players will be able to get a retail copy after all.
Ground Zeroes is currently slated for an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 release on March 18, 2014. Originally, it was reported that while the game would be available digitally on all four platforms, it would only get a physical retail release on PS3 and Xbox 360. This morning, Konami released the following clarification, confirming that retail copies will also be available for the PS4 and Xbox One:
“METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES will begin hitting retail stores beginning March 18, 2014 for the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. The game will be available in retail stores nationwide on current generation systems for the MSRP of $29.99 or via download for $19.99. For Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PlayStation 4 systems, the game will be available for the MSRP of $39.99 for the retail version or via download for $29.99.”
While it looks like next-gen console users will have to shell out a little extra, many are undoubtedly happy that they’ll be able to pick up an actual physical copy of the game once it’s released next March.
