According to a new unverified source, the next Mass Effect game will be set after the original trilogy.
BioWare has been keeping hush hush on the new Mass Effect game they have in the pipeline but, according to a new post from an anonymous forum poster, we may have a new bit of solid intel on the developer’s next sci-fi-focused foray.
According to a Mass Effect 3 forum user sporting the handle “Col. Paine”, who claims to have insider info he/she gleaned from a secret BioWare meeting he/she attended at this year’s PAX Prime conference, the upcoming Mass Effect game will in fact be set after the events of the original Commander Shepard trilogy. The biggest piece of evidence he/she presents is the introduction of two new alien races, one labeled as “Arrogant” with thin skeletal frames and glowing eyes, and the other as an “Ancient and Advanced” guardian race.
According to Col. Paine, the introduction of these new races wouldn’t fit within the context of a prequel game (where were they when Commander Shepard was running around fighting the Reapers?) which means this new game has to be a sequel. Paine also mentioned getting a glimpse at the enhanced Frostbite 3 graphics and several different land vehicles that players will get to pilot.
As with all other rumors, fans are encouraged to take what they read with a grain of salt until BioWare can either confirm or deny the validity of Paine’s claims. If the new info does turn out to be legit though, it sounds like Mass Effect fans have a lot to look forward to.
