The planned Twitch app for Xbox One will sadly not be available at launch.

The PlayStation 4’s integrated Twitch streaming feature is no-doubt a big hit amongst social gamers and avid Twitch viewers alike. Sadly it looks like Xbox One users won’t be able to enjoy the same live streaming capabilities, at least not right at launch.

According to a new statement from Microsoft, the company is delaying the previously shown Twitch streaming app for the Xbox One to ensure that it’s working properly before they release it to the public:

“We know the ability to instantly broadcast gameplay is something the gaming community is excited about, and we are too,” Microsoft writes on the Xbox Wire site. “We are working to ensure the initial Twitch on Xbox One broadcasting experience meets the expectations of the Twitch community, so while this feature won’t be available right away, we’ll let you know as soon as it is ready. Our goal is to deliver it during the first part of 2014.”

Nothing more specific than “the first part of 2014” could be confirmed at this time which is no-doubt a big disappointment for Xbox One fans who were hoping to show off their exploits live on day one. This comes as an especially nasty sting for those who picked Xbox One over the Playstation 4 since Sony’s new console already features not one but two live streaming options in the form of Twitch and UStream.

When it does launch, the Xbox One’s Twitch app will allow Xbox Live Gold members to cycle through different streams, unlock Twitch-specific achievements, and stream their own live videos which they can then save and upload directly to YouTube.
