Microsoft is offering a clean slate for players who make the jump from Xbox 360 to Xbox One.

If you’re an Xbox 360 player who did some things while playing online in the past that you’re not particularly proud of, Microsoft is offering you a clean slate on the Xbox One.

Microsoft’s Marc Whitten recently confirmed that reputation scores for a player’s Xbox 360 gamertag will not carry over to the Xbox One which means all those negative reports and downvotes won’t be following players into the next generation of gaming. A majority of players will start at the default “Good” reputation level the first time they boot up their Xbox One.

However, Whitten was also careful to clarify that more egregious offenders who act up around the time of the Xbox One’s launch will have to atone for their actions should the decide to make the next generation leap:

“We will be working with the Xbox Live enforcement team that has identified a small subset of members that have recently had enforcement actions taken against them and set those members reputation to an initial “Needs Works” level. This will give those members a chance to prove they can participate on Live fairly, and are not automatically placed in the “Avoid Me” classification where things like SmartMatch filtering will affect them.”

Also, according to Whitten, players can apparently be logged into both their Xbox 360 and Xbox One with the same gamertag at the same time. What practical use this has beyond being able to play two games at once remains to be seen but it’s a cool little feature nonetheless.
