The NFL Hall of Famer talks about 25 years of video game football in this exclusive interview.
What do you like about what EA Sports is doing with the new edition of Madden NFL 25?
The new edition is terrific, especially for running backs. Running backs have features that make them more powerful, more elusive. It’s very fitting that I was able to grace the cover this year being that I’m a retired running back. Even going up against a future Hall of Famer, Adrian Peterson, in the last round, it was very fitting how things turned out.
What was it like suiting up again to play football?
Oh, man. It was fun to be there. I’m not quite the athlete I used to be, but it was great being out there with all those guys that are still competitive in a venue like that. It was very festive.
What do you think has kept Madden going strong for 25 years?
It’s not just a video game. It really gets into the nuances of the game. It gets into the language of the game and you really get a sense for how each individual play is designed. Fans really get into going deep into the game. The NFL is an exciting game to begin with and then what EA Sports has been able to do with it is just taking it that much further. People that don’t play football are truly fans of the Madden game and they learn a lot about the sport through the game.
