Gamers looking to upgrade to next-gen should keep an eye on a new promotion being offered by GameStop.

According to recent reports, games retailer GameStop is supposedly offering $50 in store credit when trading in certain current-gen games for their next-gen counterparts.

In an effort to help drum up appeal (and sales) for select next-gen titles, GameStop will put a $50 in-store credit value on certain games as long as their put towards a next-gen version of that same game when being traded in. So far the confirmed list of games which are eligible for this offer includes Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Madden NFL 25, FIFA 14, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (with more likely to follow as the next-gen console release date inches closer and closer).

What this means is that, for instance, if a player buys a copy of Battlefield 4 for the Xbox 360 and then gets an Xbox One and wants to get the Xbox One version of BF4, they can trade in their Xbox 360 copy and receive $50 credit for it as long as they put it towards an Xbox One version of BF4.

There are some restrictions however. The current-gen version of the game must be traded in within 30 days of being initially purchased and the offer only applies to members of GameStop’s Power-Up Rewards program. Also, the entire offer ends for good on December 31, 2013 so interested players are encouraged to act sooner rather than later. The offer applies to pre-orders as well so if a player tries out a current-gen version of a game and decides they want to upgrade to next-gen before the next-gen version is out, they can still do so using this offer.
