If you happen to be a Japanese resident, you can nab a brand new Xbox 360 at a deep discount.

Japan has always been known to be Sony’s turf which would explain why Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has had a tough time generating sales over there. To help Japanese gamers warm up to their current-gen console, Microsoft has slashed the Xbox 360’s price for Japanese retailers by roughly $100.

A brand new 250GB Xbox 360 console in Japan normally costs 29,800 yen (roughly $303 in U.S. dollars) but now that price has been cut to 19,800 yen (roughly $201). According to the promotional poster for the announcement, the discount has no time limit and will last “until the planned number [of consoles] sells out.” The discount only applies to Japanese residents so hopeful U.S. gamers who happen to be travelling to Japan and who want to nab a cheap new Xbox 360 are out of luck.

Oddly enough, another requirement for the discount is that the buyer must be a registered member of Xbox Live (which is free to join). Such an odd requirement probably won’t be too heavily enforced, but don’t be surprised if your local Japanese retailer asks for your gamertag before they knock off that extra hundred bucks.
