Linux users can now play Valve's hit zombie-survival sequel and all users can now use the game's new Extended Mutator System.

After a brief stint in beta, the Linux version of Valve’s widely popular zombie-slaying sequel Left 4 Dead 2 has officially joined its PC and Mac counterparts on Steam.

In addition to the new Linux compatibility, Left 4 Dead 2 now sports the brand new Extended Mutator System which had also been in beta up until now. Using the Extended Mutator System, players will be able to utilize an expanded modding toolset to create custom scripts, spawn point locations, enemy behavior patterns, and even entirely new game types.

Despite being launched nearly five years ago in 2009, Left 4 Dead 2’s presence has remained strong thanks to the numerous updates, DLC expansions, fixes, and tweaks it has received. The recently added Steam Workshop support has also done wonders for the game’s longevity and it’s little wonder that as of last September, the game has sold over 12 million copies.
