The idea of the arcade isn't what it used to be but they still hold memories for a lot of people.
There was however, one game that had to be played on vacation, before we bought it for the Dreamcast, and that was The House of the Dead 2. This was one of the few games that my father could play with my brother and I. We didn’t have to help him figure out the game, all we had to do was tell him to shoot zombies and save the people. That game is still one of my favorite arcade classics and I can’t walk past it in the arcade without playing it. What I just said can be said for a few video games I see in arcades.
It’s a real shame that the arcade era looks like it’s at an end. This might just be the area that I live in or it could be a sign of the times. People would rather pay once and own the game rather than leave their house and pay multiple times to play a game. There really is no reason why the arcade era was such a popular one. Some of the most memorable games came from the arcade era, like the Simpsons and X-Men. C.O.W.Boys of Moo Mesa is one of my favorite arcade games and maybe I feel that way because I was a fan of the show when I was younger. It could also be that some of most memorable memories come from my childhood, like playing the Simpsons Game in the arcade.
Well, that just about does it for another installment of “A Look Back.” It’s Retro Gaming Week and what better way to commemorate is looking back at video game memories. I have one more planned but if you have comments/ideas for the next installment, post them and maybe you’ll have the subject for the next “A Look Back.”
