Contrary to what was originaly posted on the Darkspore forums, the game is still alive and kicking.
Update: Despite the earlier statement that was posted on the official Darkspore forums, Maxis PR manager Charlie Sinhaseni has confirmed via Twitter that not only is the game still very much alive, but that Maxis has managed to fix all of the game-breaking bugs that were plaguing the game before.
A note about Darkspore, Maxis HAS NOT ceased support for the game. More info here http://t.co/82Kzk5qPrW

Darkspore hasn't made its way back to Steam yet, but it would seem keeping it on Origin wasn't a mistake after all.
Original Story: Back in 2011, developer Maxis and publisher EA released Darkspore; a marginally successful action-RPG that was available on both Steam and EA’s digital platform Origin. Lately, the game’s been having some server issues which are rendering it virtually unplayable for many users (much like EA’s and Maxis’ recent Sim City game, Darkspore requires an online connection even when playing single-player modes) but that hasn’t stopped EA from continuing to try and sell it.
In the wake of several game-breaking bugs and other errors that have been reported by disgruntled users, Maxis released a statement saying they’d pretty much abandoned the title:
Darkspore is no longer developed. It is for almost all intents & purposes an abandoned title. If you cannot play the game & have flicked through technical issues for any fixes, then contact EA Customer Support; especially if it regards CD-Keys or refunds.
Error 73003 has gone unfixed & remains an issue.
Error Code 3 has arisen for the majority/all & remains an issue.
I will however keep the forums here as clean & tidy as possible in my spare time. Why? Well why not. If it helps anyone with minor problems, or find their way somewhere, then that's great.
I wish you all luck, no matter what path you choose with Darkspore.

However, it would seem Maxis failed to give EA the same memo. Despite being pulled off of Steam, Darkspore is still listed in the store section of Origin as being available for $19.99. So if you happen to be browsing the Origin store and you come across Darkspore, you might want to reconsider before pressing that “Purchase” button.
