Valve is officially launching their Steam Trading Cards system this week and they've teased the coming of their annual Steam Summer Sale.
Valve’s newest initiative to get players collecting and sharing, Steam Trading Cards, is officially exiting beta this week and they’ve teased an annual wallet-draining tradition to mark the occasion.
Steam users will be able to start collecting and trading virtual cards from certain Steam titles such as Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2 on June 26 at 2PM EST (11AM PST, 7PM GMT). Valve has confirmed that they’re adding Trading Cards functionality to a few more games in anticipation of the launch (the beta list of compatible games was Dota 2, Don’t Starve, Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2, and Counter Strike: Global Offensive) but which new games exactly are still unknown and most likely will remain so until the system officially launches later this week.
Valve also included in their announcement a little tease which hints strongly at the coming of their annual Steam Summer Sale: "Making trading cards available to all Steam users is a step towards an event we think everyone can be excited about..." Considering the sale has kicked off in late June/early July in years past, the timing definitely matches up.
