The serious game was named winner during 10th anniversary Games for Change Festival on June 17 in NYC.

Safe Sex with Friends is the winner of the 2013 SEXETC.ORG Game Design Competition. As part of the first-ever public design competition from Games for Change, a non-profit organization that catalyzes social impact through digital games, game creators competed to create a concept of a safe-sex awareness game.

Three of the competition finalists presented their ideas on stage in front of a live jury during the 10th Annual Games for Change Festival for the chance to win $35,000 to develop their concept into a prototype. Safe Sex with Friends was announced as the winning game, and will be developed for and in collaboration with Answer, a tech savvy nonprofit organization that has more than 30 years of experience providing and promoting sexual awareness to young people. The process, including the public contest and the cash prize, were funded by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.

The three finalists included: Safe Sex with Friends, SexEd Super Task Force and Check/Mate. After hearing presentations from the three finalists, and careful deliberation, jurors Matt Parker, Lana Dakan, Lucinda Holt, and Naomi Clark, selected Safe Sex with Friends as the winning game.

“It was an intense jury selection, which means that we have three games all with great merit,” said Asi Burak, Co-President of Games For Change.
