Microsoft Fighting For Xbox One Domain Name

Nathan Hermanson
Read +

Nathan Hermanson has been gaming and writing since he was a wee child. For some reason, he always felt the two events were mutually exclusive. Writing was writing and gaming was gaming. When it came time to choose a career, he floundered around before realizing that his two passions could actually be combined. Since then, he has worked on multiple websites, both as a freelance writer and as Editor-in-Chief. Nathan loves point and click adventure games and games that take risks.

Yeah. He's one of those guys.

While they fight back the backlash from gamers, Microsoft is also hard at work to secure the website for its new console.

Microsoft may be in the middle of a long battle with the public after the reveal of the Xbox One, but they are also entering a battle for a basic part of their new console's marketing plan. Its website.

Back in 2011, Fusible reports, a man in the United Kingdom registered both XboxOne.com and XboxOne.net. Obviously, Microsoft would rather have those domains under their jurisdiction, but have only taken action recently. Microsoft either didn't have the name thought up at the time of registration or they feared that someone would catch the name if they registered it early, so the UK "cybersquatter" is going to battle.

Microsoft has filed a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum (NAF) and looks to retain both domains sooner rather than later.

While Microsoft's public image is taking quite a few hits, they will most likely come away with a victory here and their focus can shift to damage control.
