The Xbox One may be a lot friendlier than the early rumors reported, but there are still a number of items you will need for consistent use of the system. To start off, Xbox's UK Marketing Director, Harvey Eagle confirmed rumors that the Xbox One will not function unless a Kinect is plugged into it. The good news is that each unit will ship with a Kinect bundled in, so there will be no extra cost beyond the system's price point. It is bad news though for anyone looking to avoid the motion controlled device.
One of the biggest rumors surrounding the next generation Microsoft console was the idea of it being "always on," meaning it needed a constant internet connection to function. After the Xbox One reveal event, Microsoft Vice President Phil Harrison told Kotaku that the device does and doesn't need an internet connection.
"There are many devices in your life that require the Internet to function," he said. "Xbox One is no different in that it requires, at some point in the beginning and at various times through its on state, to connect to our cloud and to our Internet."
