I take a trip to a couple of local places to see what I can find -- and there's plenty.
May 4th is a pretty hectic day this year to say the least. Not only are a bunch of folks celebrating "May the 4th Be With You" as a non-official Star Wars holiday, but it's also Free Comic Book Day, where thousands of comic book stores are offering plenty of free issues for fans and newcomers alike to enjoy. Since it was such a nice day in Denver anyway, I decided to make a couple of stops to see what was being offered.
The first place I hit was a shop over in Highlands Ranch called Enchanted Grounds. It's a combination coffee shop, game shop (traditional, not electronic) and comic book shop, all rolled into one. And it's quite fantastic, with its number of Warhammer offerings (I know a friend who's really into that stuff), collectible figurines and more. I managed to pick up a Hulk comic, as well as a Bleeding Cool guide to comic books (believe it or not, I'm a rookie in that department) and an Iron Man 3 figurine for my desk, while also grabbing a snack to keep the rest of my day in check.
Along the way, I also asked about Denver Comic Con, an event coming to downtown Denver in June that will feature a number of sellers, panels and guests, including the one and only Stan Lee, along with Star Trek's George Takei and The Guild's Felicia Day. It's coming our way from May 30th through June 2nd, and DCC tickets were available for a discount purchase. It's not too late for you to head down and get you some.
