If I told you there was going to be a new 3D Zelda game and Earthbound coming to the States, would you believe me?
The Guild Series games were also announced during the presentation. The Starship Damrey, developed by Takemaru Abiko and Kazuya Asano, doesn’t give anything to you easily and you have to earn everything. Bugs Vs. Tanks, from Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, has you controlling a shrunken World War 2 tank against large bugs. Customize your tank to create the most damage against the giant bugs. Finally, Attack of the Friday Monsters: A Tokyo Tale, from gifted storyteller Kaz Ayabe, has your character living in the area where 70’s TV monsters live and come to life every Friday. These interesting ideas are just some of what the eShop has to offer and will be available soon.
The Shin Megami Tensei series isn’t getting left out of all the fun, particularly the 4th installment. The initial shipment of the game could be considered a collector’s edition, seeing as it comes with a music CD, strategy and design book, and a collectable outer slip case. Fans of the series won’t want to pass this up on July 16th.
One of my favorite games of all time is the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. You can only imagine how happy I was when A Link to the Past 2 3D (could be a different title when finalized) was announced. The 3D will be able to add depth to the dungeons as well as make it easier to differentiate between to floors of said dungeons. It’s the same interpretation of Hyrule that the original LTTP took place in but it’s a totally different story. Interesting twist is that Link or “Steve” since I would be playing, can turn into a drawing and travel on walls. The camera angle changes and you can see different things that weren’t visible before. Think Super Paper Mario with the dimension shifting as an example of how this idea works. There’s a 3D demo on the 3DS eShop now and the game is expected to be released for the holidays this year.
Well, wasn’t that one hell of a presentation? Nintendo has outdone themselves this time and set the 3DS up for success this year. Let’s hope the Wii U is doing the same and when some great games come into focus, the Wii U will be just as strong.
