Our in-depth preview of Injustice: Gods Among Us.
I recently I got the chance to play Injustice: Gods Among Us at Game Developers Conference 2013, DC comics superhero fighter from NetherRealm Studios, the development team that brought you Mortal Kombat. I am big fan of the arcade classic and have been waiting for their next game, but I have had questions just like everyone else. Is Injustice going to be limited by the amount of gore? You have to suspect that D.C Comic’s will never allow Superman to be decapitated in half by Aquaman, and for that reason will the combat mechanics lose their flair, and punch; however I am happy to report that is not the case.
The ninth iteration in the Mortal Kombat franchise was a reboot for the series, and helped establish itself as fighting game juggernaut once again thanks to its single-player content. The biggest gameplay change in the series was the X- Ray mechanic, which would allow you to perform a special move allowing you to have a fighting chance if you were on the losing end of a match. Another core feature was the challenge tower that allowed players to grasp the controls. The reason I bring up NetherRealm Studios previous entry is because Injustice has many of these same elements, just equipped with comic book flair.
What separate’s Injustice is the realistic approach they’re talking. The tone of the game is mimicking the Christopher Nolan’s Batman series, a dark grounded realistic approach. It conveys this in a dark meaningful story that is intertwined with D.C comics going on right now. The campaign takes place after the Joker poisons Superman causing him to kill the Lois Lane and his unborn child. This sends the Man of Steel on a rampage, making him decide to abandon the Justice League, and fight for his own self.
