The newest 3DS update will allow data transfer between physical and downloaded games. Will it make your 3DS gaming experience better?

Send the kids to the neighbors because you’re going to want to have a lot of free time on your hands for this one. You don’t need pesky kids bothering you while you’re trying to update your 3DS. Ok I may have oversold it a little bit but an update to help make the system run more efficient is always welcome. Without further delay, lets get into the details of the update.

First up is a tool that lets players transfer save data from a game they bought in physical form to the downloaded version of the game. It seems like a waste of money to buy the game and then buy it again in downloaded form to me. No matter how I feel, the player will be able to pick up right where they left off in the physical form of the game on the downloaded version. Once you perform this transfer, you won’t be able to transfer it back to the physical version. Think Pokemon transfer in this regard that once you bring the save data over from one game to another, it’s stuck there. Be absolutely sure you want to transfer before you actually perform said transfer.

It appears that the trend among players is that they want to be able to play games while they are downloading something. It appears that Nintendo heard the pleas of the players and this update allows for downloads to be performed in the background. The 3DS had the “download later” feature already on the system but now, you can put the system in sleep mode to activate the “download later” feature. Looks like right after you buy something on the eShop, you can close the system and sleep mode will kick in and the download will start. Personally, I like to download the game/app right after I buy it so I can make sure it downloads properly but it’s a welcome addition to the 3DS. This is a busy time for the 3DS and you want it at the top of its game so you can enjoy everything Nintendo has to offer on the system.
