You Make Me Feel Emotional!
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Monowave on Steam. Fans of platformers will want to check this one out.
Monowave is an interesting take on the puzzle genre combined with platforming. The world is made up of emotions, and you have to use those different emotions to solve puzzles and platform. The Prism Tree was at the center but one day, the Emotion Shards from the tree disappeared. The emotion spirits left until there was only one left, the bear-like creature we get to play as.
The platforming is pretty interesting where you have to get from point A to point B. Along the way, you have to use the different emotions to help you such as anger giving you a wall jump skill. You'll be able to transfer emotions to enemies in the level for your advantage. You might have to give an alligator the yellow happiness emotion to keep it from biting you. You can also get closer to enemies to have them transfer their emotions to you. It's puzzle solving like this that make Monowave an interesting puzzle solver.
There are also boss encounters that remind me a lot of Donkey Kong 94 boss fights in terms of how long the stage is and how there are multiple things to do. For example, you have to make your way through the one stage, collect certain emotions, and then use them to disarm the boss. There are check points in the levels and you'll need them because some of the stages are pretty tough. There are plenty of secrets in levels as well so keep an eye out for them.I'd like to thank the devs for a review code.
