Who Knew "Hoot" Was A Warcry?

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Atomic Owl on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Atomic Owl does something interesting right off the bat. It allows you to play the game as a roguelike, as the game was intended to be played as, or as an adventure, following along with the story. This game is very story heavy so I could understand that some people might want to play the game along with the story.

You take the role of Hildago, the captain of the Bladewings. The vile wizard, Omega Wing, took control of Hildago's friends and trapped him for two years. After getting set free by our friendly neighborhood sword, Mezameta, Hildago finds out that his world is in chaos and needs to take down Omega Wing. He also thought he could save his friends, but they're too far gone. He'll have to do the humane thing and take them out of their misery.

For the playthrough, I decided to play it as a roguelike. You'll also see platforming elements in the game too. I love when a game gives you an airdash/dash right from the start and Atomic Owl does that. It also gives you plenty of weapons to start out. My favorite was the chain/whip weapon that was similar to the one in Castlevnia. There is also a hammer that you can throw as well as a dagger that's pretty quick. One thing I couldn't stand regarding the weapons is when you went into a door/left an area. It would change your weapon back to the default weapon. There were plenty of times where I through I had the whip/chain equipped and didn't, thus the reason why I took damage a few times. You also have a bonfire/campfire section similar to Dark Souls where you can upgrade and make your character better.

Fans of the roguelike genre will want to check out Atomic Owl. Fans of a deep story will also want to check it out. I want to thank the devs for the review code.Make sure you check out the hands-on video below!
