The Hero We Need!
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at the Ledgerbound demo on Steam.
Ledgerbound is part graphic novel, part ass-kicking RPG -like battles and that works. I didn't think a game about bureaucracy and claim adjusting would work but it really does work well. We take on the role of Reyna, who works at Heroes United Life Group. It's our job to hear what happened to the hero party and see if they were negligent. We want to see if they were negligent, so we don't have to pay them benefits, the life of an insurance company! You'll get thrown into RPG-like battles to see what happened to the heroes as well as hear a breakdown of the incident. It's an interesting take on the formula. You'll also be able to interact and form relationships with Reyna's co-workers. I really like the fact that Reyna doesn't have much downtime away from the office, so her best friend is a hatrack.
Reyna is the employee of the month, and all is good. That is until one day the biggest hero party in the world turns up dead and we have to figure out if they can get benefits. It will bankrupt our company if they can, so we have to try our best to figure out what happened. I'm not going to spoil it for you, but the action heats up from here. The voice acting is very well done, when it actually works. There were a few times where lines weren't read or it actually said, "lines missing." Other than those little blips, I really enjoyed the game and look forward to seeing more of it.
