Quote the Raven!

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at the Edgar Allen Poe Interactive Horror 1995 Edition on Steam. Fans of classic point-and-click games will want to check this one out.

Let me start by saying that I'm sorry if the volume is a bit too loud during the gameplay. There was no way to lower it, so I had to work with what I had. That being said this game really has that old school look and feel to it. I didn't think it was too scary. I did think things in the game were very bizarre but bizarre is scary so it works. The characters you run into during the journey are pretty creepy too and they fit right into the game.

There were times where it was tough to move around but that has to expected as in these point-and-click games, there is usually one to two spots that you can click and nothing the rest. I will say that liked the idea that the mouse pointer was a hand. It was also interesting to have to locate the different poems strewn throughout. I think I'm just not into Poe's work enough to fully appreciate the effort here.

The poems of Edgar Allen Poe being used for a horror game is an interesting idea since he was known for odd/spooky writing. the main idea for the game might have worked in a different genre more that point and click journey. That being said, it does delivery what it says, a creepy game with odd stuff around Edgar Allen Poe poems. Just know that things move pretty slow throughout.
