Charmingly Chewable Retro RPG
Creative-first publisher Mega Cat Studios and the 8-bit evangelists at Exquisite Laundry Pet are kicking 2026 off with a sweet treat for fans of classic 8-bit role-playing games. The highly anticipated RPG Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land is rolling toward release on February 19, 2026.
“I'm thrilled to be getting Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land out into the world!” said Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land creator Adam Lewis Graf. “As a small indie developer, it's a very special thing to see your debut project in the hands of players who have a love of the Game Boy Color era, or even just a curiosity about it.”
A whimsical, family-friendly quest inspired by Undertale and the classic Game Boy Color RPGs of the late ‘90s, Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land will be available not only on Steam, but also as an authentic Game Boy Color cartridge, allowing players to relive the glory days of handheld 8-bit adventures.
“I'm especially excited for the cartridge release because I know that retro gamers (myself included) have a particular affinity for physical media,” Graf continued. “I hope Gumball brings a challenge and a smile to the face of whoever picks it up—whether they're a retro RPG fanatic, a newcomer to the genre, or someone who's looking for an excuse to dust off their favorite handheld console that's been sitting on a shelf for the last 15 years.”
