The paper is mightier!

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Majogami, on the Nintendo Switch 2. AT TIME OF WRITING, THE STEAM VERSION IS DELAYED UNTIL THURSDAY, NOV 6 AT 12 AM PACIFIC.

Over the years, I have become a fan of Inti Creates. They have a knack of giving modern games a retro feel. They also have a way of making me keep an eye out on brand new properties. Majogami is an interesting hack and slash meets platforming journey. The anime look and feel to the game also help grab me but I digress. It would have been nice to have translated/English voice actors for the game but not having it doesn't ruin it. It would have been a nice added bonus.

Long story short, you play the role of Shiroha in a strange land with her father, or at least the paper figure who she thinks is her father, Shiori. Shiori is a piece of paper so Shiroha's doubt is justified. You'll have to fight enemies and monsters with your trusty katana and special attacks.

As I mentioned earlier, the game is a combination between hack and slash mechanics mixed with platforming. Setting up combos will be key for survival. There are some enemies that need to be attacked a certain way. That could range from making duplicates of yourself to using special attacks. You'll have to get good at combo attacks because you'll have to use said combo attacks to get out of the way of enemy attacks. Boss enemies have large attacks and you will have to, in a way, juggle yourself up to enemy hit boxes and out of the way.

You'll make your way through different levels, trying to get your memories back as well as defeat the Craft Witches. After taking down a Craft Witch, you'll get your hands on a recarte, a card with bits of your memories. To make things a little easier, you can go to the shop and buy goods from Uyuha. There are all kinds of goodies at the store. You can buy health items to heal you in battle. You can buy charms to make gameplay easier. One of the better things this shop does is that it recommends items/equipment for you to buy. The charms could reduce fire damage, upgrade your HP or revive you once. You can find treasures in the levels and that extra money will be big for you to buy new things. You can also find conversations in the levels. These will add backstory and flesh out relationships for characters.

All in all, Majogami is another fun game from INTI CREATES. The writing is humorous and I really like the characters thus far. There were a few times when it was tough to see what was going on because of the frantic pace of action but once you get the hang of it, that becomes an non-issue. Fans of hack and slash platformers will need to check this out.
