Check out a new Chichuki Views, starring Fading Skies

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Views, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. Today, we're checking out Fading Skies on Steam. Fading Skies combines the fantasy realm with classic PlayStation 2 graphics and makes it work.

There were times during the demo where the camera felt a little off to me but that helps the game feel like a classic PS2 era game. The combat and controls were giving off slight Dark Souls vibes in terms of being able to roll dodge and heal on the fly. I really liked the cat creatures that help Ryn during the journey. The voice acting was pretty good and you really feel that during the flashback scenes but I'm not going to spoil too much.

I enjoyed the training ground/level up areas where Ryn would travel to. They could be considered temples but it is a nice change of space to find the leveling location and have to figure out the platforming to get to said level-up spot. The branching system for new attacks is simple as well.

I mentioned earlier that the game gave off Dark Souls vibes and the inspiration is really shown during boss encounters. You'll have to master heavy attacks with light attacks and dodging to defeat boss enemies. You'll also have to use all your skills to defeat bosses along the journey too.

Fading Skies is a cool take on the fantasy genre and feels like a love letter to PlayStation 2 era games. The platforming is challenging at times and the story looks like it's going to take interesting turns. The camera and boss fights could use a little tinkering but other than those, I'm looking forward to the game.
