Check out this rougelike from Phoenixx!
I was able to swing by the Phoenixx booth at PAX East and played some interesting games. There was one game in particular that caught my attention and that was a game that was only mentioned in secret before the show. It was a new rougelike game in the Touhou universe so lets get right into it.Touhou Genso Wanderer Foresight was shown off at PAX East and I have to say it looks like a charming roguelike game that reminds me a lot of the Mystery Dungeon franchise/series.
Long story short, Reimu Hakurei fell in battle and wakes up in the Hakurei Shrine with no memory of what happened. With the help of Marisa Kirasame, they venture together to solve the mystery of what happened to Reimu’s memory and Gansokyo from evil.
Different characters have different abilities and attacks. One might be able to throw spell tags and charms whereas another might be able to throw daggers. You will have to explore all over the place to find new items, skills and weapons. Along the way there will plenty of monsters and enemies to take down.
Just like in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, you will be able to put your team in different formations and line them up to attack enemies at the right moment. You’ll be able to cast special attacks that cover the whole screen and do large amounts of damage. You will have to ration supplies for healing and recovery so you can make it all the way through each dungeon. Be on guard for traps that can do all kinds of negative effects. There are boss fights at the end of each dungeon so save up your special attacks for the right moment.
You’ll have the option to go through the story or play the game like a normal roguelike game. I would recommend going the game in story mode the first time because there are a lot of characters in the game and thus a lot of details to learn and enjoy.
There are times where Mystery Dungeon games like this are hard to pick up but I didn’t feel that with Touhou Ganso Wanderer Foresight. It felt like you jumped right into a dungeon, figured out how to attack, and you were well on your way to victory.
