Check out what Apogee brought to PAX East!
I was able to stop by the Apogee booth at PAX East this year and they brought an interesting game with them to the show floor. Elements looks and feels like a combo between Breath of the Wild and a Souls-like game. It’s a good thing it plays like Breath of the Wild as the voice of Zelda, Patricia Summersett, is voicing one of the characters, Nyah.
The first thing that I noticed while playing Elements was that there was an option to mount something. Being able to ride something to get across the vast world is always fun but it was even better when I jumped on, what I thought was going to be a horse, but it turned out to be a dinosaur. It wasn’t just any dino, it looked like a raptor and I don’t care who you are, being able to ride a dinosaur around the world is pretty damn cool.
That being said, the build of Elements brought to PAX East was an early build. You could tell by my dinosaur being able to walk through and on top of water in the same area. The same could be said for enemies just appearing out of nowhere and not having attack animations.
You’ll be able to find magic in the different locations and you’ll need to figure out which magic works best. Different locations will be based around different elements like fire or water but you won’t need to find different spells/elements to progress. It sounds like it will be similar to Pokémon fighting where different spells/elements are stronger against a certain type of monster.
Elements is an open world game where you can travel wherever you want. In the demo there was a town and a boss fight right behind the town. I went the opposite direction at the start and got lost but found my way to the town and boss fight. Like in most open world/souls-like games, you’ll be able to study the attack pattern of the boss and learn what makes them go. This game is something to keep an eye on but it felt like the build at PAX was an early build so it might be a little while before we see Elements on home consoles.
