See what 505 Games brought to PAX East with them!

During PAX East this year, I was lucky enough to schedule an appointment with the fine group at 505 Games. This year, they brought two games with them to Boston and they’re both games that you will need to keep an eye out for. Rogue Spirit and Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising appear destined to join the long list of cool, interesting games developed by 505 Games.

The first game I got to check out at PAX was Rogue Spirit. This game has an interesting idea where you assume the role of a wondering spirit. That spirit in turn, can possess enemy fighters you happen to take down in combat. You’ll be able to find all kinds of weapons and skills this way. You can leave one type of enemy and jump right into another enemy. You might need one type of enemy that moves faster or another type that is strong enough to take a punch.

That enemy could be the same type of fighter but could have higher attacks or skills. Different “ninja” have different special attacks as well so be on guard for what attacks work best in each situation. If you happen to die in battle, you’ll have to start from the village again but you’ll be able to find different weapons and skills, as each playthrough isn’t the same. During the adventure you’ll be able to learn enemy attacks so you don’t get hurt too badly during fights. You’ll also be able to find different items strewn about the land so you’ll be able to heal if need be.

The other game I was able to play is called Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising. This game feels like an old school JRPG in the classic side-scrolling formula. I love the way this game looks and it plays just as good. When you arrive in town, you’re a newcomer that doesn’t know too much both in terms of how things work and people. That being said, you’ll have to learn quickly as you have to obtain an explorer license to do more things. You will have the option to help people out by giving them supplies or help build up their place of business. During gameplay you’ll be sent out to all kinds of locations to find different things.

The locations aren’t safe as there are plenty of monsters to deal with. The more you build up your town, the better selection of items/tools you’ll be able to find/buy. You will need to toughen up your weapons and the blacksmith in town will be able to help you out with that. During the demo, you come across a kangaroo character in passing. How cool is it going to be if/when you get to add this kangaroo to your party/town? This game has so much charm going for it as well as the writing/storytelling is pretty good too. I can’t wait to see how this story pans out, as the hands-on demo didn’t go too much into the story!
