Get your mind off of the pandemic and onto some games!
Since the world has been stuck in lockdown because of Covid-19 this year, I thought it would be a good idea to bring people back to a simpler time, a better time, this year’s PAX EAST up in Boston prior to all the Covid-19 issues started getting out of hand. Let’s ship up to Boston!
With the likes of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Streets of Rage 4 getting shown at PAX this year, there were plenty of other games that got the eyes of show-goers. Wunderling starts out by having players play the role of the good guy but turns into a bad guy. He turns by attacking a random enemy and that’s where you come in, you control that random bad guy turned good guy to traverse different levels. You can only move forward and jump but that adds to the fun! Trials of Mana was shown and it played pretty well. The dialogue and voice acting isn’t the greatest but the control/attack schemes feel like you’re playing the original SNES game. Their musical scores are a nice touch. Geshin Impact is a large open world experience with anime-type characters. You’ll be able to fight your way and travel your way! By the way it looks, it reminds me of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, if Zelda was on PS4.
GTFO is a multiplayer, first person shooter where you try to survive a monster attack. You’ll be able to talk to your party since you play with three other players and the voice chat is some of the best I’ve ever heard. I thought there would be lag or static but my voice was clear and I could hear my party the whole play through. Each party member will have a different role for survival so stay on your toes. 30XX, a sequel to 20XX plays like a classic Mega Man X game, similar to how 20XX played. There are differences to the sequel like being able to store power-ups. Wild River brought with them The Dark Eye: Book of Heroes and if you’re a fan of point and click attack games like classic Diablo, then this is for you. You’ll be able to form a party and go on quests for adventure. Survive and conquer of lose and fail, it’s up to you! You could also try your luck with Magic: Legends spun off of the Magic the Gathering franchise. You’ll be able to interact and fight with your favorite MTG monsters in this point and click adventure game. SpongeBob Squarepants was at the THQ booth with a remastering of Battle for Bikini Bottom in the Rehydrated version. It will bring back memories of the original game since it controls just about the same way. I did have THQ developers tell me that I got the most collectibles for media and I didn’t rip my pants (SpongeBob joke, check)
Hopefully this trip down memory lane will help you get your mind off of the pandemic and put a smile on your face.
