Supa Meat!
Indie Games are all the rage at Pax East and Team Meat knows a thing or two about Indie games. This time, they were showing off their newest game, Super Meat Boy Forever on the Nintendo Switch console. The Switch and Super Meat Boy feel like they go hand-in-hand as the Pro controller was a perfect fit for the quick action Super Meat Boy Forever was asking players to perform. Super Meat Boy Forever is an “Auto-Type” game and what I mean by that is the character moves on its own and the player controls the actions such as jumping or wall jumping.
You also have the ability to slide or dive-bomb straight down quickly and you will need that as jumps are precise in this game and you will have to land fast after them. There is a progression bar at the bottom of the screen to show players how far they’ve gotten in each stage and each stage isn’t that long but if you’re having trouble making a jump or dive, it could feel like an eternity. As I mentioned earlier, the Switch Pro Controller felt perfect for the action/commands Super Meat Boy Forever was asking of its players. Nothing felt too fast/quick on screen for the players to react to. You were sliding under saw blades to attack mushroom enemies and then you had to jump quickly and it felt there was plenty of time between actions to perform the maneuver.
During gameplay, the stages will be different through each play through and can vary from hard, mean, or cruel difficulty but Super Meat Boy is supposed to be challenging right? Games like this allow the players to learn through trial and error and trust me there will be plenty of trial and error especially if you’ve never played a Super Meat Boy game before. Timing will be key as you make your way through different levels and stages, complete with different challenges.
One piece of advice, you might think holding down will allow you to slide the whole time you hold down the down button, you would think wrong. The controls are simple to learn but will take some time to master as you will need to react on time to perform basic commands like sliding as well as tough wall jumps. Fans have been waiting for a Super Meat Boy sequel for quite sometime and now they have their wish!
