2013 Grammy nominated composer Austin Wintory received his second BAFTA nomination for Best Original Score for the video game, Journey.

2013 Grammy nominated composer Austin Wintory received his second BAFTA nomination this week. Wintory is nominated for Best Original Score for the video game Journey. Additionally, Wintory received the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, DICE Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition for Journey.

Wintory made Grammy history this year, being the only composer to be nominated for a Grammy for a video game score. He was nominated for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for the vide game Journey. The young composer was nominated alongside Academy Award-winning composers John Williams, Ludovic Bource, Hans Zimmer, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross and Howard Shore. The score for Journey debuted on the Billboard charts in April at a higher position than any other score in video game history. That’s quite an accomplishment considering the history of video games.

Wintory is seen as an up and coming in the composer realm and is hailed by The Hollywood Reporter as one of 15 composers “primed to take their place on the A-list.” Wintory’s works have been performed by orchestras and chamber ensembles around the US and Europe. His accolades include a BAFTA nomination for flOw, two Hollywood Music in Media Awards for “Best New Composer” and “Best Original Score, Mobile Video Game,” and the Game Audio Network Guild Award for “Rookie of the Year.”flOw was recently honored at the Smithsonian Museum this spring as part of The Art of Video Games exhibit.
