It was announced this week that Rayman Legends, originally a Wii U exclusive title, will have its release date delayed so Ubisoft can develop the game for multiple platforms. The release date is now September of this year for all major platforms. The same development team behind the Wii U version, Ubisoft Montpellier, will be handling the development of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

“We heard from many Xbox 360 & Playstation 3 owners and Rayman fans who told us they really wanted to play Rayman Legends on their current system,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. ”We decided to give the fans what they wanted while at the same time broadening the audience exposed to this innovative and memorable game.”

For the most part, this news has been met with anger and hostility from the droves of fans on the internet. Some are just ticked off that the Wii U version has been delayed even though it sounds like it was ready to come out right on time. Other people sound like they were waiting for Rayman to release so they could get a Wii U. I read an interesting point online pertaining to this recently. If the shoe was on the other foot, would Ubisoft do the same thing? What I mean is, if Wii U owners were repeatedly asking for a game that was only on Xbox 360 or PS3, would they delay the game to create a Wii U version? Let that sink in for a little bit.
