Record attendance and live streaming has catapulted eSports to new highs in 2012 for Major League Gaming amongst the key young male demographic hungry for video games.

During the 2012 Pro Circuit, Major League Gaming (MLG) drew more than 11.7 million unique online viewers over the four Pro Circuit Championship weekends, up from 3.5 million for the 2011 season and breaking previous MLG online viewer records. Additionally, more than 15 million hours of LIVE online video were consumed during Pro Circuit weekends. The Spring Championship in Anaheim in June and the most recent Fall Championship in Dallas from November 2-4 were the two most watched events in MLG history.

MLG Dallas 2012

Major League Gaming (MLG) reported 334% year over year growth in live streaming video viewers. ESports continues to attract a passionate audience of young, male gamers. Compared to online communities for traditional sports leagues, MLG’s demographic is younger, more male dominated and more affluent (60% 18-34 year olds; 85% male, and over 40% HHI $100k+ - Comscore).

“MLG’s 334% growth in live online audience this year surpasses growth demonstrated by traditional sports. This is a testament to the mainstream demand for competitive gaming and power of live streaming,” said Sundance DiGiovanni, CEO, Major League Gaming. “The last two years have been the largest in MLG’s 10-year history with over 636% growth in live viewers. I only expect that growth to continue in 2013.”
