CCP games is making history.
CCP games announced today that DUST 514 will open their beta version, which is free to download/play. All you need to play it is a Playstation 3. The first step for the open beta was when DUST 514 merged with Eve Online on the Tranquility server. With both being on the same server, CCP has done something not seen too often in the business. What they did was have an online mega-world that combines the console and PC platform in real time. It is also the first time that two totally different game genres have meshed into one online experience.
“The launch of the DUST 514 Open Beta is another step towards our long-term vision for CCP and EVE,” said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP. “But this is just the beginning. As we have done with EVE Online, in the coming weeks, and for years to come, we will continually improve upon and add to the DUST 514 experience, as well as add deeper integration between the two games and their communities.” The open beta will be available to the masses on January 22nd. DUST 514 mercenaries is in closed beta now and grants closed beta access, 40,000 Aurum and a host of in-game items for 20 bucks, all of which will remain intact as DUST 514 rolls into Open Beta form. Special bonus for the game is for anyone playing the closed Beta. If they play a match before January 22nd, they will receive a 100,000 Skill Point bonus, which can go into the open beta.
