About a week before the full length trailer is set to be released, Paramount studios has given us an early glimpse into the extremely anticipated, yet completely shrouded in mystery, Star Trek sequel: Star Trek Into Darnkess.

The teaser trailer, at just a little over a minute in length, has its share of shocked faces, things that go boom, and a first look at none other than Sherlock himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, as an as-yet unidentified super bad guy with a complicated past.

Star Trek Into Darkness will see a return of the 2009 cast, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Burce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, and Anton Yelchin, and will hit theaters May 17th, 2013.

Personally, I'm thrilled with this kind of a teaser trailer. Not only does it get me completely hyped up for the movie, but it gives us a sense of the dark intensity that will accompany this film - a change from the upbeat and often humorous 2009 film. Plus, we get a chance to marvel at some of the effects that will highlight the movie. Frankly, I think it's one fantastic trailer.

What do you think? Does this trailer get you excited for May 2013?
