How did you come up with the voice for King Candy?
King Candy – we need to – like Ed Wynn a vaudevillian actor. It’s his – he was very close to his voice in the beginning and it’s not just his voice but that was a big help, and then – you know he’s very fun and he’s happy and he doesn’t just say things straight out. He frumps around a lot. He doesn’t get to the thing and that’s fun.
Do they let you improvise at all in the movie?
Yeah. Yeah.
What was your favorite video game growing up?
My favorite video game growing up? There was this video game that I don’t even know what it was called. There was a clown and he was on a unicycle. It really was a game, and he would – he had like a hat on with like a spike on it and you’d have to wheel him around and people would throw things and you’d have to catch them on the spike on his head. I was terrible at it but I loved it. I loved it. I would waste money on that damn thing.
Which video games did you research for this role?
None. None. None whatsoever. It was all just about the – because I’m not playing the game, I’m in – I’m in the games so I’m the guy and I didn’t even really – he’s a king. I didn’t really research any kings either. I just sort of had fun.
