Rock on!
In this era of gaming, the multiplayer co-op appears to making a comeback. Being able to play multiplayer games with friends makes gaming great. Having four friends playing together in the same room has become a thing of the past but it isn’t dead. You don’t need four players in the same room for Super Dungeon Bros since it has online multiplayer but it does give you the option of local/same room multiplayer.
There is an option at the start of the game to play the tutorial so you can get the basics of the game down. I recommend that you start there where you can experience the controls and level design for the first time. You can also get the basics of the attacks and special attacks down as well.
Super Dungeon Bros is an easy game to pick up with or without friends but will be difficult to master, meaning practice makes perfect. You will need to play levels and replay them to collect items/currency so you can buy different weapons to make gameplay easier.
You can play with friends in multiplayer modes or you can go it alone in solo mode. Just a bit of warning, if you play solo the enemies could overwhelm you at times. The difficulty factor felt like it jumped up too fast.
What I mean by that is the first play through of the first level felt like how a first level should and then the boss fight felt like that level didn’t prepare me for the tough battle to come. It’s just another way the game drives home that multiplayer is king!
The concept of rock star knights is a great idea for multiplayer and the cut scenes are great. The writing and humor fits the theme very well. I would recommend attacking everything and picking everything up so you have enough money to buy new weapons and items to make kicking butt easier!
Another thing that makes the game tough is that the dungeons will change, meaning you’ll never play the same dungeon twice. This element makes the game tough and having more friends/players makes this element a non-factor because your team will overcome!
You can take on the daily dungeon or the weekly dungeon to show just how tough your skills are! There is also a leaderboard so you can see how your scores compare to the best in the world.
As I mentioned before the controls are easy to pick up but will require practice to make you a master. Jump range and attack range are things that you will have to practice to know just how far or wide your attacks and jumps go. You don’t to lose your last life because you mistimed a jump or let an enemy get the best of you. Different weapons do different things and practice is the only way to see which work best for you!
To recap, Super Dungeon Bros is a multiplayer game fans paradise but can be just as fun solo. It will be tougher playing one player but that will show just how badass you are. Practice makes perfect while playing, either solo or online/local multiplayer. I’m giving Super Dungeon Bros for the PlayStation 4 an 8/10.
