Jason Voorhees joins the kombatants in Mortal Kombat X

I recently got my hands on the Mortal Kombat downloadable content pack that includes download fighter costumes as well as new kombatants. You’ll get your hands on the Kombat Pack as well as the Horror Pack. These new fighters are ready for Mortal Kombat!

The DLC starts with Jason Voorhees joining the fighter roster and he fits right into the lineup. Jason plays like he has been a fighter for years. He uses his various blade attacks to slice up the competition. His fatality looks like it could be a scene in the Friday The 13th movies as does his entrance/exit scene. I wasn’t a fan of his controls in general as I felt he moved too slow. Also in terms of how fast the game and environment is, a character that moves way too slow feels like the fighter is at a huge disadvantage.

What better way to release the Horror Pack than with Jason leading the way? Along with the Friday The 13th scare factor there are costumes that play off the horror aspect. These are Vampiress Mileena, Kraken Reptile and Pharaoh Ermac. I feel that I’m an old school MK fan and have never really liked the animal direction Reptile has gone over the years. My feelings continue with the Kraken form too.

The DLC adds to the game since players always look forward to seeing what fighters get added/unlocked over the course of gameplay. Different variations in costumes perform this task as well. I would love to see more for Kung Lao, my favorite kombatant but beggars can’t be choosers.

Score: 8.5 / 10
