Is Looking for Victini worth a look? Find out in the review.
I got my hands on a copy of the Pokemon Manga that coincides with the Victini and Zekrom movie and it doesn’t disappoint, like all the Manga that I have been able to check out thus far. For those who don’t know, the Manga takes the Pokemon series in a different darker direction, at times. I will get into more detail about that in a little bit but I did notice that this particular entry stayed more in sync with the animated series, in terms of writing and illustrations.
Long story short, the people of the Vale (main side characters) want to restore their homeland. In order to do that, they will need Reshiram’s help and Victini, of course. The stage is set in the town of Eindoak and Ash and co show up and get the recap of the story and encounter Victini along the way. Victini is the key to controlling the Dragon Force and bringing the People of the Vale’s homeland back to the way it was.
This edition of the Manga feels more like the animated series at times. What I mean by that is the humor is on-par with the TV show, like when Ash can only think about food or when they trick Victini to come out from hiding by not feeding it.
However at times it goes the way of the other Manga, dark. Times like when Victini almost died from being pushed way too far or when Ash, Pikachu, and Victini get stuck in the castle while it gets pushed into the outer atmosphere and almost freeze to death. Death isn’t talked about too much in the animated series and its hit on twice in the Manga. The movies are different where they have, at times, a darker story but for the most part Victini and Zekrom is right on track with the animated series.
This Manga holds you hand more, in terms of making sure you know how to read it more than other Manga in the franchise. The mood is presented to the reader in way of illustration and writing. You can tell how dire a situation is by just looking at one of the faces of the characters. Writing makes a good story better and Victini and Zekrom is no exception. Near the end of the Manga, you start to feel for the characters. All Victini wants is to go to the ocean and Ash wants to help it get there. By the end, you really hope he gets it there. I’m giving Victini and Zekrom an 8.5/10, the story feels just like one of the TV episodes and does a good job getting you hooked into the story.
