Pokemon takes the leap into 3D!

It was reported for a long time on the internet that January 8th would be a big news day for Nintendo and they didn’t disappoint. Nintendo had a short Nintendo Direct this morning all about Pokemon. In it, the games all Pokemon fans had been waiting for, Pokemon X and Y version were announced and the starter Pokemon for the new games were announced as well. The same Water/Fire/Grass types apply for the starters but regulars of the series have come to expect that detail. The Grass-type is Chespin, the Water type is Froakie, and the Fire type is Fennekin. It looks like the early internet favorite is Fennekin but I like all 3 of them. The games will launch worldwide in October and that’s a big deal because the games usually release at different times in different locations but not this time.

X and Y take that next step that fans wanted to see. New Pokemon, new story, and all of it in lovely 3D. It took Pokemon long enough to get in on the 3D but it looks like it was worth the wait. It will be interesting to see how X and Y play into the story and how 3D is introduced into battles and attacks. It looks like these new Pokemon games will be the smash hit of 2013. Make sure to preorder them because they will probably be tough to get a hold of.

“The worldwide launch of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y this October allows players to begin their adventures at the same time,” said Tsunekazu Ishihara, CEO of The Pokémon Company. “Now, Pokémon fans across the globe can discover the secrets of Pokémon games and can collect, battle, and trade with each other immediately.”

“We brought Pokémon into an entirely new dimension and we’re incredibly excited to bring Pokémon X and Pokémon Y to fans,” said Junichi Masuda, video game director at GAME FREAK inc. “The stunning visuals, a completely redesigned environment, game scenario, music, and communication features will bring smiles to the faces of video game players around the world.”

You can catch the trailer for Pokemon X and Y below.
