Check out Deus-Ex: Mankind Divided in theater form!
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the phrase “mankind divided?” I doubt it’s the struggle people who have augmented body parts having to struggle against societal problems from the people who don’t have the augmented parts. Well that in a nutshell is the basis for the upcoming game from Square Enix, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and I was able to sit in the theater presentation for game details. Let’s get right into it!
It won’t be long until Deus Ex is released to the masses and by not long, I mean August 23rd. The theater presentation at this years Electronics and Entertainment Expo was mostly about controls and how the gameplay will work. Mankind Divided has all kinds of exploration aspects inside it, complete with hidden secrets right under your nose. You might be walking through your in-game apartment and go over to a hanging picture and find a secret. The secrets are everywhere in the game so keep your eyes peeled.
There are role-playing game elements in Mankind Divided. You’ll be able to upgrade weapons that you can use to take care of problems you’ll come across. In the demo, you have to deal with gang members and you can either take care of them without making too much of a fuss or you can go the other direction with it and cause a scene. It will be beneficial at times to create as little noise as possible so you don’t bring more attention and people to your location.
Your actions will directly affect the gameplay. If you perform one task, you might have to pay the penalty for it later in the game. The same could bear fruit for you if you decide to help someone out, it’s up to the player!
The developers wanted to add vertical aspects in the game where you could see more going on in apartment windows and fire escapes for example. You could end up solving a puzzle by climbing up to a window to get into an apartment , without being detected.
Hacking has returned to the franchise but with some modern flair. There will be more security challenges for you when you have to hack something so be on your guard. If you’re trying to be stealthy and you set an alarm off from hacking, be prepared to get the hell out of there. Speaking of stealthy, Smart Vision has been upgraded to assist in your sneaky-ness. You’ll be able to tell what enemy characters are wearing during Smart Vision so there should be no excuse when it comes to being in the shadows, not being seen!
Something that was mentioned in the presentation was that you will be able to combine augmentations. Why this is key is that you can combine them to perform certain tasks or abilities. You might be able to stun enemies with the stun gun but make too much while walking through the area you were just it. If you combine augmentations, you’ll be in sight but not heard. It will be interesting to see just what combinations players can come up with to make their lives in game easier!
