See what’s going on with Deep Silver’s Newest IP, Agents Of Mayhem
The first stop of the third and final day at this years Electronics and Entertainment expo was Deep Silver. Deep Silver is bringing out a new intellectual property that’s a part of the Saint’s Row universe. Let’s get right into Agents of Mayhem!
Fans of the comic book/super hero/cartoon universe will love Agents of Mayhem. Long story short, the Agents of Mayhem are recruited into MAYHEM to protect the city of Seoul, South Korea, against the villainous organization, LEGION. It has an interesting feel the minute you start playing and will make you feel like you’re watching an over-the-top Saturday morning cartoon.
You’ll create a three-person team to combat the Legion and each of the 12 playable agents has their own skills and special attacks. You’ll be able to switch between the three characters you’ve picked for the mission on the fly. You might need a character that has speed or a character that is large and in charge.
You’ll also be able to upgrade your agents and make them the best agents they can be. They will have to be on their guard to defeat Legion and Doctor Babylon. The Agents work outside the law and get things done their way but you wouldn’t want a super hero team doing things any other way, right?
The developers want you to feel engaged in the story and attached to the characters. The themes and tones of the game are so over the top that you can’t help but fall in love with your team of agents. The writing pulls you into the story and missions. I found myself getting angered by the turn of events in the demo and wanted to take Legion down even more! The look and feel of the game is very vibrant and using the graphics to keep the player drawn in is another way the game pulls you in.
You played the demo with the PlayStation 4 controller but Agents of Mayhem will be available on Xbox One and PC when it releases. The controls were very smooth and responsive. As I mentioned before, each character has their own abilities and special attacks.
You can charge up Mayhem in the "Mayhem" meter and that allows special attacks to be used. You can also use an invincibility attack that although limited, you can just run into enemies and not have a care in the world. This attack/ability will come in handy when the location you happen to be in is swarming with enemies and you’re low on health.
You can upgrade and level up your team while you’re trying to save the world. Each member of the three member team will gain the experience points so leveling up shouldn’t be that time consuming as with other role playing games. You can also double jump and dash away from attackers which will come in handy in boss fights.
There are cut scenes that move the story along and they really look like they could be a cartoon series. The writing and the character designs play into that as well! The demo story has a artificial intelligence falling in love with a cyborg. If that doesn’t scream super villain/ Saturday morning cartoon stuff, I don’t know what does.
To recap, Agents of Mayhem is the newest IP from Deep Silver and Volition. The agents of Mayhem are created to defeat the Legion and their nefarious plans. The writing and dialogue keeps you thinking it’s so over the top, it can’t fail! Only time will tell how Agents of Mayhem will turn out but it looks like it’s off to a good start!
